Wicomico County Tourism welcomes back MAWA tournaments

Girls' division added to wrestling events

SALISBURY, Md. – Wicomico County Tourism is excited to welcome the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association back to the Wicomico Civic Center for tournaments starting this weekend.

The MAWA South Regionals are set for this Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10, followed by the MAWA Eastern Nationals, scheduled for April 30-May 1.

More than 900 wrestlers, both children and adults, will compete in the South Regionals, including more than 40 in the new girls’ division.

“We saw there was interest in having a girls’ division at this event, and we are thrilled to have such a great response,” said Chip Woytowitz, sports marketing representative for Wicomico County Tourism.

The South Regionals tournament features seven divisions and multiple weight classes within each division. Wrestlers will be traveling to Wicomico County from eight states and Washington, D.C.

The tournaments are returning for the first time since 2019 because of the pandemic; however, Wicomico County has been hosting MAWA events over the past 30 years and this will be the 14th consecutive time the Eastern Nationals will be held here.

“It’s great to have MAWA back in Wicomico County,” Woytowitz said. “Good luck to all the wrestlers who are competing this weekend.”
